Bluewater Health recently officially ditched pagers for an encrypted messaging app.
The corporation with hospitals in Sarnia and Petrolia recently signed a one-year contract with a Canadian company, said chief of staff Michel Haddad.

The move is a boost for patient care, he said.
“Because now, the nursing staff and the physicians can communicate faster,” he said.
The shift away from pagers started five to 10 years ago, as hospital workers started embracing text messaging for semi-urgent matters, Haddad said.
“Advances in technology, digital phones don’t interfere much with our monitoring systems, so people were allowed to use” cellphones in hospital, he said.
