Electronic Arts, which has five offices in Canada, is going private after a $55-billion buyout from an investor consortium, the company announced Monday (Sept. 29).

Electronic Arts, also known as EA, announced it had entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by a consortium comprised of PIF, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners "in an all-cash transaction." Through the agreement, the consortium is set to acquire 100 per cent of EA.

PIF, or the Public Investment Fund, is a Saudi Arabia-based sovereign wealth fund.

Silver Lake is a global technology investment firm, with locations in North America, Europe and Asia.
