The San Francisco Giants fired manager Bob Melvin on Monday after two seasons and a 161-163 record.
Melvin, 63, missed the playoffs both years and was let go with one year remaining on his contract.
General manager Buster Posey picked up Melvin's 2026 option on July 1 but opted to shift gears after the team faded to an 81-81 finish.
"After meeting with ownership, I met with Bob today to inform him of my decision," Posey said in a statement released on Monday. "On behalf of the organization, I want to express my appreciation to Bob for his dedication, professionalism, and class. I wish him all the best.
