WINCHESTER, Va. (DC News Now) -- With the holiday season approaching, and at a time with so much economic anxiety, volunteer support is greatly appreciated, especially in Winchester.

The Winchester community has rallied to mobilize volunteer services to extend that helping hand.

The goal is to build a better community with a helping hand where needed, with a proactive approach to mobilizing volunteers.

"We work, for example, with a volunteer who may come in one night, and it could be just that person who that homeless person needed to meet to truly change their lives," Robyn Miller with the Winchester Area Transitional Shelter said.

Kit Redmer with the City of Winchester works with the umbrella organization, Community Connect & Serve, to make transportation accessible for those in need
