Police attempts to tackle antisocial behaviour in Wigan town centre for the fourth weekend in succession by issuing a dispersal order are welcome, but they should not be used to prevent peaceful protest.
That’s according the people the Local Democracy Reporting Service spoke to following demonstrations for and against immigration in the heart of the town at the weekend.
The town centre was subject to a 48-hour dispersal order for the fourth weekend running, following reports of anti-social behaviour and a stabbing at the bus station earlier this month.
