The East Baton Rouge Coroner's office released the autopsy results of Caleb Wilson, a 20-year-old Southern University student who died in February during an off-campus fraternity hazing ritual.
On Monday, Dr. William Beau Clark ruled Wilson's death a homicide. The cause of his death was determined to be commotio cordis, which occurs when blunt force trauma disrupts the cardiac cycle.
The rare condition gained notoriety when doctors determined the condition forced NFL safety Damar Hamlin into cardiac arrest as a result of making a tackle during a game in January 2023.
Wilson, an engineering student and trumpet player for Southern University's famed Human Jukebox marching band, died after he was punched in the chest four times while pledging for Omega Psi Phi inside a warehouse at 3412 Wo
