SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a global tribute and public funeral services for its recently deceased prophet and president, Russell M. Nelson, who died Saturday, Sept. 27, at his home in Salt Lake City . He was 101.

Nelson, who served as the church’s 17th president for over seven years since January 2018, was the world’s oldest leader of a global faith organization. Church officials confirmed that the regularly scheduled semiannual General Conference will proceed this weekend, Oct. 4-5.

Events honoring the life and legacy of the late leader will begin Wednesday, Oct. 1, with a special global broadcast. Titled “A Tribute to Russell M. Nelson,” the event is closed to the public but will air live at 10 a.m. The broadcast will feature remark
