CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A judge sentenced the man accused of conspiring for disgraced Lowcountry attorney Alex Murdaugh following guilty pleas to multiple charges, including wire and bank fraud.

Russell Laffitte, 54, is sentenced to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud and three counts of misapplication of bank funds, U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina Bryan Stirling said.

U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel gave the 60-month sentence. It will be followed by a three-year term of supervision. The court ordered Laffitte to pay a $20,000 fine and $600 special assessment.
