INDIANAPOLIS — Multiple people were displaced after a fire broke out on the near west side of Indianapolis Monday afternoon.

In a Facebook post, the Indianapolis Fire Department reported that its units were called to a residence located in the 3500 block of West Michigan Street around 1:21 p.m. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found smoke emanating from the rear-side of an area residence.

One of the home's occupants told IFD that unattended burn barrels may have caused the house fire. That occupant suggested that the fire likely spread to the house from the burn barrels, which were situated in the property's back yard.

IFD confirmed that nobody was injured during the fire. The agency also indicated that it is still active
