ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (WSMV) - Major changes start on Tuesday, trying to better protect students in Cheatham County middle and high schools.
Cheatham is the latest district in Middle Tennessee to add weapon detection systems after the Antioch High School shooting in Nashville earlier this year.
Sycamore High School is the first building to test the Open Gate scanners as part of the rollout that Cheatham County School Resource Officers said will last through Fall Break.
Cadence Aaron graduated from Sycamore in May and his younger sister, Kylie, is a senior there now. They’re thankful leaders are adding scanners even at smaller schools.
