COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus firefighter is on paid administrative leave after being arrested and charged with felony strangulation following an alleged domestic incident over the weekend.

According to court documents, 37-year-old Darrell Arnold is accused of strangling a woman during an argument early Sunday morning. The woman told 911 dispatchers that Arnold “got very mad at me this morning and threw me to the ground and choked me.”

A police report states the incident began when Arnold accused the woman of having an affair. During the confrontation, Arnold allegedly strangled her to the point where she could not breathe, then released her, pushed her down and took her phone. Officers say Arnold left the scene but was stopped and arrested by Columbus police shortly afterward.
