An Alabama man was killed when a 3-year-old found a gun and it discharged.
The shooting happened about 7 a.m. Monday at a home on Taryn Trace in Lincoln.
Authorities are not releasing the victim’s name pending notification of extended family members.
Interim Police Chief Scott Bonner said officers responded to the residence and found the victim dead inside.
“We’re not sure if the child dropped the pistol and it discharged or he pulled the trigger,” Bonner said.
There were other adults and children in the home at the time, but they were asleep. No one else was injured.
The victim’s name has not yet been released but Bonner said he was a family member of the toddler.
The child will be interviewed by forensic investigators trained to interview children.
