AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety announced Monday it has suspended the issuance of certain commercial driver licenses in compliance with an emergency federal rule.

The suspension, effective Sept. 29, follows a rule change by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. DPS said it will no longer issue or renew non-domicile commercial driver licenses (CDLs) or commercial learner permits (CLPs). The change also applies to non-citizens who are refugees, asylees or recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) according to a news release from DPS.

The news release states that ending applications for those categories are also halted, and customers will not be allowed to continue written or skills testing until services are reinstated, officials said. DPS
