The Leavenworth City Council unanimously passed a resolution in support of keeping federal forests and the area’s other natural resources public.

“Chelan County is home to a significant portion of public lands, comprising approximately 80 percent of its total area, which are integral to both the County’s, and our City’s economy, environment, and quality of life,” read the first line of the resolution.

The Sept. 23 resolution comes a few months after U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, unsuccessfully pushed for the potential sale of U.S. Forest Service land across the country. In Chelan County, nearly 75 trails would have been impacted if the provision had remained in Congress’s budget bill that passed earlier this year.
