KERR COUNTY, Texas — More than two months after catastrophic floods tore through the Texas Hill Country on the July Fourth weekend, killing at least 135 people, two victims remain missing. But a group of volunteers from Salado and across Central Texas refuses to give up the search.
The Lonestar Guardians, led by Salado contractors Brock Holland and Ron Cunningham, arrived in Kerr County just two weeks after the disaster. They're still there, working from dawn to dusk in dangerous conditions, funding the operation out of their own pockets.
"I could not be more proud," said Salado Mayor Bert Henry, who traveled to Hunt this week to join the search efforts. "Salado is just a unique place where they all tend to rally together, especially when it matters most."
