CBC News has learned that actor Josh Hartnett was a passenger in an SUV that was involved in a collision with a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) patrol vehicle in St. John's on Thursday.

The actor was in the city filming a show for Netflix. Speaking on background, a source with knowledge of the production said the actor was travelling home from set when the vehicle he was riding in was hit by another vehicle.

The RNC issued a press release on Sept. 25, stating police are investigating a collision involving one of its patrol vehicles.
