SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- This week of extended summer temperatures makes us wonder where fall weather is hiding these days. As meteorologist Brian Karstens shows, it's not as far away as you might think.
With all these warm and, at times, record-breaking temperatures in the forecast, I decided to look back at similar years in late September and early October to find any patterns. The results are interesting to say the least.
First, let's look at the years with record highs from September 29th through October 3rd. There are only 2, 2023 and 1897.
As it turns out, the 1897 records are Monday and Friday for Sioux Falls, while 2023 took first place Tuesday through Thursday.
