WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- In the early morning hours of Sunday, a single shot rang out in Hays during a domestic violence call. The shot came from inside the home and hit Sergeant Scott Heimann. Despite the efforts of his fellow officers, he died after being transported to a hospital.

Tuesday marks nine years since Heimann graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson. The program director there may not have known Heimann, but says his loss affected every department in one way or another.
