LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan House Republicans report that Senate Democrats have agreed to adopt new "transparency requirements" for federal spending as part of ongoing budget negotiations.

Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall says that House Resolution 14 would require every spending item requested by legislators to be "publicly vetted with a real justification" and be available online to the public.

Additionally, the resolution would ban earmark spending for for-profit businesses and would increase standards for non-profit recipients.

“The Hall Ethics Accountability and Transparency (HEAT) Plan is the most significant transparency and ethics reform in years,” Hall said in a news release sent to 6 News.
