JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. —
The city of Jeffersonville, Indiana, has received a significant boost to redevelop its historic Jeffboat waterfront site.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation announced a $20 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., which will help transform the 80-acre site into a mixed-use complex valued at around $1 billion.
Mayor Mike Moore is enthusiastic.
"Get the paintbrush out, get the canvas out and let's just do something crazy," he said.
The redevelopment plan aims to turn the mile-long strip, currently owned by American Commercial Barge Line, into a destination for residents and tourists alike. The Wheatley Group, based in New Albany, will collaborate with Ohio-based Thrive Companies to bring the vision to life.
“The state doesn’t do that frivolously,” Moore
