The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested four persons from different locations across the state on allegations of conspiring to topple the “democratically elected government in India” through violent jihad and to enforce Sharia law.
The accused also intended to form a “Mujahideen army” and procure weapons as part of their plan, officials said. Those arrested are Akmal Raza, a resident of Sultanpur, Safeel Salmani alias Ali Razvi of Sonbhadra, Mohammad Tausif of Kanpur and Qasim Ali, a resident of Rampur.
The ATS claimed to have recovered Aadhar cards, PAN cards, credit cards and other items from them.
