The top three candidates in the Oct. 11 election for Orleans Parish sheriff squared off in the race's final televised debate Monday that touched on the jail's tumultuous five months since the May escape of 10 detainees, with Sheriff Susan Hutson defending her agency's handling of that event and repeating her claims that it was an inside job.
Though Hutson's campaign is all but out of money, as of the most recent financial disclosures, and her polling numbers have bottomed out, Hutson found herself on the defensive in the 30-minute debate hosted by WDSU-TV.
