JEROME COUNTY, Idaho — Jerome County officials will prohibit weapons inside the courthouse and administrative building starting on Oct. 1.
The Jerome County Board of Commissioners announced a policy change on Monday for the facility located at 300 North Lincoln Avenue. Officials cited recent events at the national and local levels as reasons for the enhanced security.
County commissioners consulted with courthouse security staff and legal advisors before making the decision, according to a statement. Officials said that employee, elected official, and public safety remain their primary concerns.
The commissioners acknowledged citizens' rights while emphasizing the need for security measures given current conditions.
