FLUSHING, Queens (WABC) -- A police investigation is underway after a human skull, and other skeletal remains were discovered in a parking lot in Queens on Tuesday.

A city survey crew was working along 20th Avenue when they discovered a male human skull, a leg bone and a hip bone in the parking lot of 134-01 20th Ave. in Flushing before 4 p.m., according to a preliminary investigation.

The spot is located behind a chain fence, across the street from stores like Target, Home Goods and ShopRite.

It's unclear how long the bones were there or whether foul play is expected.

The investigation is ongoing.
