Leaders of the Goodwill Excel Center, a tuition-free high school for adults in Kentucky, are advocating for its expansion to offer more second chances to Kentuckians seeking to earn their high school diplomas.
The center provides wraparound services like childcare, offering a life-changing opportunity for many.
Tameka Freeman, a student at the center, shared her aspirations, saying, "I think I probably wouldn't even be trying to fulfill my dream if I didn't come here."
Freeman, who is only six credits away from her diploma, dreams of attending culinary school and running her own food truck. She previously attempted to get a GED but faced financial barriers.
"I can't wait to put on my cap and gown. I have my daughter and my grandbabies see me walk across the stage," F
