EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- New Mexico State University picked a former Orangeman from Syracuse University to lead the Crimson and White into the future.

The university has picked Joe Fields of Tulsa University to be its next athletic director. Fields, a former standout football player at Syracuse, will begin his new role on Oct. 8.

Most recently, Fields has served as the deputy athletics director and chief operating officer at Tulsa.

Fields will guide an Athletics Department that has seen some highs in recent years and some lows, most notably the hazing scandal that shut down the men's basketball program during the 2022-23 season.
