EVERETT, Mass. —

An independent audit revealed Monday night that the mayor of Everett, Carlo DeMaria, was paid an additional $31,000 in 2023 for a cost-of-living adjustment.

In February, State Inspector General Jeffrey Shapiro issued a public letter , saying that DeMaria received an overpayment of $180,000 through a misapplication of the city's mayoral longevity ordinance between 2016 and 2021. DeMaria was first elected in 2008.
