A busy stretch near Miami International Airport came to a standstill during a three-hour standoff with an armed passenger who refused to leave a stolen vehicle, police said.

Surveillance video obtained only by NBC6 shows how the tense encounter began at a Chevron gas station near the 836. A white Honda Pilot pulled up to a pump with three people inside when an unmarked police car with sirens arrived.

Officers quickly pulled out the driver and a 13-year-old passenger sitting in the front seat. But a third passenger in the back refused to exit. Police said that man was armed, setting off hours of negotiations.
