A suspect is in custody after a fatal assault took place the afternoon of Sept.29.

According to an evening statement from the Sioux Falls Police Department, a 70-year-old male succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital after law enforcement responded to a “weapons violation” near the area of 800 North Dakota Avenue.

Sioux Falls resident Timothy Bellonger, 54, was later arrested and has been charged with second-degree murder in the case. He is in the Minnehaha County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Sgt. Cole German said “there is no risk to the public” and more information will be shared during an afternoon media briefing Sept. 30.
