WESTLAKE, La. (KPLC) - The Westlake Police Department is relaunching and expanding its Explorer program.

The program allows kids to get an inside look at what it’s like to work in law enforcement.

“We know we have good and bad police officers in the world, but we’re just trying to shed light on what we do, the roles that we play, and how we can be an asset to the community,” Westlake Police Chief Wilrye said.

The Explorer program was first launched in the 1990s. It was designed to give children a deeper look into what our law enforcement agencies do on a day-to-day basis.

The program died down some years ago, but Wilrye and his team felt like now was the perfect time to bring it back.
