BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) - Brazos County Judge Duane Peters announced on Monday that he will not be seeking another term.

Judge Peters has been on a leave of absence since June while focusing on his health. In the meantime, former State Representative Kyle Kacal has been serving as acting county judge.

The judge intends to return to his post to finish out his term but announced he would not be running for reelection.

“It has been my honor to serve all of you in this capacity, but I will not seek another term,” Judge Peters told the county.

Judge Peters has served in this position since 2011.
