ZANESVILLE – St. Clairsville’s bid at back-to-back Ohio Division II state golf tournament appearances came up a little short Monday at the sun-soaked EagleSticks Golf Course.
The youthful Red Devils, who won the sectional title last week with a junior and four sophomores, finished in third place with a four-man total of 310. However, that was well behind Indian Valley and River View which carded 291 and 295, respectively. Only the top two teams advance to the state tournament.
Barnesville tied Maysville for third with scores of 311. Martins Ferry finished seventh at 331.
Individually, no local golfers qualified as just the top two players not on qualifying teams advanced. Those were Maysville’s duo of Gator Nichols (71) and Hoyt Dodson (72).
