HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Homewood City leaders say homeless encampments have become a growing public safety concern, but a proposed ordinance aimed at tightening regulations will have to wait.

The ordinance , which would give police more authority to address incidents tied to homeless encampments, failed to get unanimous approval Monday night, Sept. 29.

Councilors said they wanted more time to review the language and definitions before holding a vote. The measure is expected to return for a second reading at the Oct. 13 council meeting.
