As a history professor at a local college, David Burchell not only gives his tennis players at Hopewell Valley lessons on the sport he coaches, he also gives lessons about history.

On the bus ride down to Delran on Monday for the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 state tournament, Burchell talked to his players about the origin of the “underdog”, and bear-baiting in London centuries ago.
