LEVY COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) -Nearly three million dollars in federal funding is being allocated for a project aimed at cleaning up the waters around Cedar Key.
The federal government has awarded this money to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, along with the University of Florida.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, state agriculture officials will be removing approximately 40,000 damaged clam bags and marine debris from an area covering about 700 acres.
The recovered shells and live oysters will be used to enhance roughly five acres of oyster reef habitat.
