This year, the southwest monsoon in India is most likely to end on a high note, as the season entered its last leg this week. As of September 29, the country has recorded 935.2mm of rainfall, a surplus of 8 per cent.

The rainfall data maintained by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed that every year since 2019, the country’s rainfall during the southwest monsoon season has either remained in the ‘normal’ or ‘above’ category. This year, too, it will be no different.

During the main rainy season from June to September—officially ending on September 31—the country receives 880 mm of rainfall.
