Breaking: Rs 1 cr for deceased student’s family, Rs 50 lakh for injured: HC orders in Tree Fall Case

Chandigarh, September 30, 2025: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Chandigarh Administration to pay ₹1 crore to the family of the deceased student and ₹50 lakh to the family of the seriously injured student of Carmel Convent School, Sector 9-D, Chandigarh, in connection with the 2022 tree-fall tragedy. The court also criticized the administration for its lax approach in the matter.

The Tragedy

On July 8, 2022 , a large tree collapsed on students of Carmel Convent School while they were having their mid-day meal.

One girl died in the incident.

Another sustained serious injuries , while several others were also hurt.
