Don’t look now, but the holiday shopping season is coming up fast. In my line of work, this means that, very soon, I’ll be shifting my attention from testing and reviewing the year’s best TVs to writing about the best TV deals and how they might fit into your shopping plans.

What you might not know about this time of year is that some shops — particularly big-box retailers — often begin slashing prices well before the official start of the holiday shopping season.
