Devotion to the Goddess Durga is evident in the intricate way the idol has been adorned at Kolkata’s 66-Palli Durga Puja pandal this year. The tableau is so striking that it is certain to make visitors pause, feel a shiver of awe, and reflect on its symbolism.
The pandal features a depiction inspired by Kerala. In Kerala and Karnataka, the traditional Theyyam dance is performed, for which distinct makeup and costumes are used. A glimpse of this cultural form was seen in the film Kantara. Following this tradition, the 66-Palli pandal has incorporated separate makeup and costume-inspired elements for the idol of Goddess Durga.
