WEIRTON — Summer vacation was no match for students at Weirton Elementary School, who spent their break on special “summer reading adventures” alongside the school’s therapy dog, Clara.

This year’s program offered a community-wide twist on the traditional summer reading challenge.

Students were given a copy of the book “Flat Stanley,” but with an added element of fun: a cutout of their own “Flat Clara,” inspired by the school’s real-life furry companion.
