Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced that today, September 30, is the absolute deadline for property owners to settle their half-yearly property tax dues for the current financial year. The civic body has urged taxpayers to make the payment before the day ends to avoid being charged a monthly interest penalty on the outstanding amount.

Property tax is a mandatory levy imposed by local governing bodies on real estate, including residential, commercial buildings, and vacant plots. The tax structure in Tamil Nadu was comprehensively revised in 2022, leading to increases ranging from 25 to 100 percent based on the property’s location and characteristics.
