METS star Pete Alonso hit free agency just minutes after his team missed the playoffs.

The New York side failed to reach the post-season in Juan Soto’s first year with them.

It marks a dismal end to the Mets’ campaign, especially after Soto was handed a 15-year MLB contract worth $765million.

And things have become even worse after all-star first baseman Alonso decided to opt out of his contract.

The 30-year-old only re-signed with the Mets a year ago, having been with the side since 2019.

But despite being in line for $24m in 2026, Alonso has declined his player option.

The ace is now on the hunt for a new franchise.

And it’s believed teams including the Yankees and the Blue Jays are lining up lucrative offers.
