The new strain – known as the Stratus variant or XFG – is part of the Omicron family, and is spreading quickly. There's been an increase of confirmed Covid infections from 7.6 per cent to 8.4 per cent within just one week, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). ‌
