A new Covid variant is doing the rounds, meaning vulnerable groups will be on guard, as will parents and young people. Covid in children can look a lot like any other bug going around, so detection might not always be easy.
The new strain – known as the Stratus variant or XFG – is part of the Omicron family, and is spreading quickly. There's been an increase of confirmed Covid infections from 7.6 per cent to 8.4 per cent within just one week, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
