The Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Tuesday started a permit programme, whereby owners will have to register their vaccinated pet cats by paying Rs 500, and noncompliance would attract a fine of Rs 1,000. The registration process has been made mandatory for all cat owners to ensure that the pets are vaccinated against rabies. The licence will be valid for a year, and needs to be renewed.

The initiative for pet cats, which was advertised in newspapers by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Tuesday, comes a month after it mandated similar licences for pet dogs.
