WASHINGTON —

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth are scheduled to address hundreds of American military officials Tuesday at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico , near Washington, amid speculation about the purpose of the gathering.

The Pentagon says Hegseth will deliver his remarks at 8:15 a.m., followed by the president at 9 a.m.

Trump recently stated the reason for meeting with military leaders alongside Hegseth is to discuss " how well we're doing militarily."

The gathering has fueled speculation about the purpose and value of bringing together such a large number of generals and admirals to one place. Many of them are stationed in more than a dozen countries, including conflict zones like the Middle East.
