Self-styled ‘godman’ Virender Dev Dixit, who is accused in cases of rape and mistreatment of his disciples at his ashram in Delhi’s Rohini, died in 2023, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told a Delhi court.

After learning of his demise, the CBI informed Special Judge Sanjay Khanagwal of Rouse Avenue Court and sought abatement of the trial.

“The present application has been received from filing Branch, RADC, Rouse Avenue, New Delhi . It be checked and registered… This is an application filed by the CBI for abatement of trial proceedings in the present case,” said Judge Khanagwal in an order dated September 24, posting the matter on October 15.

According to sources, information of his death was received only in January 2025 and was confirmed recently.
