Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has been granted its Aerodrome Licence by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), clearing a major regulatory hurdle for the new airport.

The licence was issued after NMIA met all safety and regulatory requirements laid down by the aviation authority, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.

The issuance of the Aerodrome Licence represents an important stepping stone towards the operational readiness of NMIA. Commencement of airport operations must necessarily await the approval of this licence, thereby edging the airport nearer towards accepting its first commercial flight.
