HOUSTON (KIAH) — Several schools in the Houston area are receiving high accolades following the state's introduction of its own iteration of the Blue Ribbon Awards program.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently made the decision to conclude Texas' involvement in the national program, opting instead to implement the Lone Star Ribbon.

This year, a total of eight local campuses are being celebrated for their accomplishments, including Carnegie Vanguard High School, Project Chrysalis Middle School, and Thompson Elementary, all part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD).

Additionally, Barbers Hill Elementary North, Meyer Elementary located in Lamar CISD, and Jack Segal Academy of Beth Yeshurun have also been recognized, along with the Harmony Science Academy campuses situated in Ka
