The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a state-wide series of “Swadeshi Melas” to be held across all 75 districts ahead of Diwali this year. The initiative, linked to the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS), is designed to offer local artisans, handicraft producers, and small entrepreneurs broader access to markets and direct interaction with consumers.
According to MSME Minister Rakesh Sachan, the fairs will run for nine to ten days in each district. In previous years, such events were confined to a limited number of districts, but this year’s expansion aims to give artisans and handicraft businesses a larger platform to display and sell their products.
