Illinois State Police reported a 6-year-old boy was wounded Monday evening in a shooting on I-94.

The shooting happened shortly before 7:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Michigan Avenue, according to ISP.

Troopers responded to an area hospital where the boy was taken after being wounded, according to a release.

A canvass of the area where the boy was wounded was started about 9:15 p.m., and traffic was diverted to an I-57 split on I-94, the release said. The roadway was reopened about 11:35 p.m., police said.
